We woke to the cry of a sweet but sick little girl Easter morning, so right away our plans for church were interrupted. She was worried that she'd miss out on the entire day of fun but thankfully by noon she was beginning to regain color, her appetite and life.
Generally Brian and I get a little gift for the kids and leave the egg hunting for grandpa's. But we waited until the last minute this year and were batting zero finding any of our gift ideas. I had planned a game that originally was going to be a winner takes all event but without individual goodies to ease the sting for those who would not come in first, we decided to give each of them a prize.
The boys' mission was to race for their own set of eggs in numerical order and Alexis had to find the letters of her name twice. This was a lot of fun...challenging enough to keep the hunt going without hurt feelings that anyone had an unfair advantage.
Alexis came in first(she had to find her letters but not necessarily in order) Braxton held the lead for a LONG time....but while Braeden was searching for his missing #3 he memorized the hiding spots of his remaining #s. Once he realized he had miscounted and his egg was resting safely in his bucket he picked up the next 9 in a snap. Although initially bummed that he came in last, Braxton's smile quickly returned when he found the prizes were equal.
We spent the rest of the afternoon bbqing and enjoying our annual hunt at grandma and grandpa's. Braeden was excited to finally be old enough to hide the eggs for the little ones (the bigs seem to have just as much fun hiding the eggs as the littles do finding them.) And a Spreier get together is never complete without some sort of wrestling/rough housing.
