Final Countdown Days 2010

Tour the city light displays....the kids were super tired! Alexis slept between houses but would climb to the front seat to sit with me once we'd arrive at our destination. It was the first year that we checked out Candy Cane Lane---an entire court: each yard/home filled with multiple displays! Very Griswald if only one house participated but so fun and pretty when each house was lit up!
Make Christmas tree and Candy Cane pizzas (thanks Michelle for the idea by way of delia creates)
The kids opened early Christmas gifts from Braeden (bought with points he'd earned at Awanas and church)
a remote control car and a zhu-zhu pet!
and we finished our advent that focused on our savior....
We gathered items that represented a scripture or two and compiled them in a basket then built one of our nativity sets around day 18. Each day or so (some nights we were not all together) we'd add a new symbol and review the previous days scriptures. It was fun to see the kids' learn and paraphrase the scriptures and really focus on the source of the season. Some of those symbols= he's the Alpha and Omega; Jesus shows us the way (compass); the bible teaches us about God the father, son and holy spirit; He came so we could join God's family (family photo), Jesus came b/c we are sinners (apple); Jesus paid the price for our sins (cross), He is the door; He is the bread of life; He's the light of the world (candle); Jesus is the greatest gift (present); b/c of Jesus we can have eternal life (ring); He is the Good Shepherd (candy cane); our JOY comes from the Lord. We've read scriptures and lit candles before but this really was such a great way to focus on Jesus while helping my kids learn scripture! I highly recommend it! (check out the original idea here).
